December dump

I recently acquired a near-new boxed Ricoh GR2 from South Aus, that I’ve been hunting down for about 4 years of so. Since shooting film from 8 years old, I’ve kind of wanted to move on from it. Don’t get me wrong, I love most things about it, but it was just time for a change. I’ve got hundreds of slides, rolls and prints from the years I shot bodyboarding with my housing, right up to the desert trips in my late teens, all the way through to just this year in Japan.

My cameras and film are getting a lot less reliable in the crazy humidity up here and I’ve had a few failed rolls, which is shitty when you lose great captured opportunties. Anyway, I finally got my hands on a crispy GR-2, which has everything you can ever want from a film camera (in my opinion). The positive film effect really does live up to it’s cult status. There are certain recipes you can create in camera in the JPEG setting which are so fun to play with, and I can recreate the look and feel of my Olympus XA2 (vignette and everything). The camera was one of the first to be able to send straight to your phone, and is still compatible with the newest iphones. I don’t use instagram or facebook anymore, but it is handy if you want to send friends or fam moments that you’ve captured.

That’s my shinfo. Here’s some shots from town on my morning and arvo walks. Some home time, picking mulberries, goldy trips and more.
